VAC14 nucleates a protein complex essential for the acute interconversion of PI3P and PI(3,5)P2 in yeast and mouse PI(3,5)P2 plays important roles in intracellular membrane trafficking – in particular in retrograde trafficking from the late endosome/lysosome to the trans-Golgi network. Lois Weisman and colleagues now implicate Vac14 in its control, acting as a scaffold to bring together and organise a large protein complex required for the regulation of PI(3,5)P2 metabolism. |
